Drinking Water Week

Overview

Drinking Water Week, sponsored by the American Water Works Association, is annually observed during the first week in May to recognize the critical role drinking water plays in our daily lives. Over the past 100 years, many improvements in the health, success, and lifespan of the U.S. population can be linked to improvements in water quality. Providing safe drinking water is one of the most important achievements of the 20th century. The celebration highlights the importance of safe drinking water and recognizes the tireless efforts of water professionals who deliver quality tap water around the clock.

For water systems in the United States, the 2025 celebration also coincides with the 51st anniversary of the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA), a landmark law designed to safeguard the public by setting high drinking water quality standards.

Brunswick County Public Utilities staff are proud to continue the promotion and observance of this annual event, and support AWWA's effort to spread awareness of the importance of safe, clean, drinking water.
