Grinder Install Information

Step 1: Grinder Tank Installation Requirements

New Homes permitted by Brunswick County Code Administration will receive an email from no-reply@brunswickcountync.gov with instructions on how to request a grinder tank installation after the insulation inspection has passed.

For new homes permitted in municipalities that conduct their own inspections, the builder must contact Brunswick County Public Utilities at 910.253.2657 (option 1) to begin the Grinder Installation request.

  • Municipalities that conduct their own inspections: Bald Head Island, Boiling Spring Lakes, Calabash, Carolina Shores, Caswell Beach, Holden Beach, Leland, Navassa, Oak Island, Ocean Isle Beach, Southport, Sunset Beach

Before submitting the work order request form included in the email or contacting Public Utilities to request a grinder tank installation, ensure the following items are complete:

  • Payment of Utility fees.
  • Siding installed on house.
  • Final grading is complete.
  • The installation area from the sewer service valve box to the tank location is completely clear.
  • The valve box is visible and in good condition.
  • All private utilities (irrigation, plumbing service, outdoor wiring, invisible dog fences, etc.) have been marked (flagged/painted).

If these items are not complete when our crew arrives, your request will move to a pending status, and you will need to call Public Utilities at 910.253.2657 (option 1) to restart the request process after all items are completed.

Note: Initiating a work order request does not mean a grinder package is installed right away. The completed work order request form is placed in a queue when received. It may take a few weeks before installation begins.


Step 2: Grinder Tank Start-Up Requirements

New homes permitted by Brunswick County Code Administration will receive another email with instructions on how to request the grinder tank start-up.

For new homes permitted in municipalities that conduct their own inspections, the builder must contact Brunswick County Public Utilities at 910.253.2657 (option 1) to begin the start-up request.

Before submitting the form included in the email or contacting Public Utilities to initiate the grinder tank start-up process, ensure the following items are complete:

  • Grinder tank installation.
  • Permanent or temporary utility power is servicing the grinder tank
  • The main breaker is accessible. You will need to provide the location of the breaker box when requesting a start-up.
  • The tank lid is accessible (free of dirt, obstructions, etc.).
  • Two separate disconnects are installed.
    • A 30 amp/240 volt for power to pump, AND
    • A 15 amp/120 volt for power to control.
  • The sewer service valve box is uncovered and unobstructed.
    • If the box is covered by sod, dirt, etc., uncover it prior to submitting the form.
    • If the sewer service valve box is damaged, note it in the request.
