[ARCHIVED] Candidate Filing Reopened for Belville Mayor Contest

The Brunswick County Board of Elections held an emergency meeting on July 30, 2025, and voted to reopen the candidate filing period for the Town of Belville Mayor contest following the death of one of the candidates.

Mike Allen, the incumbent mayor and one of two individuals who filed for the contest, passed away prior to ballots being printed. In accordance with N.C. General Statute § 163-294.4(b), the Board of Elections is required to reopen filing for an additional five days when such a vacancy occurs under these conditions.

The filing period will reopen at 8:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 31, 2025, and close at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.

Individuals interested in filing must submit a Notice of Candidacy and pay the $15 filing fee directly to the Brunswick County Board of Elections.  An updated list of candidates will be posted at the end of each day during the filing period on our 2025 Municipal Election page.
