Food Stamp Program

Overview

At this time, there are not any changes in the Food and Nutrition Service (FNS ) or Food Stamp program. Food and Nutrition Services is a federal food assistance program that provides low-income families with the food they need for a nutritionally adequate diet. Benefits are issued via Electronic Benefit Transfer cards (EBT cards).

Individuals and families who are experiencing financial difficulty, are encouraged to apply for benefits. Due to the novel COVID-19 virus, we are trying to limit the number of people visiting the office. Therefore, Brunswick County DSS is encouraging individuals who wish to apply for FNS benefits, to apply online or call our office to request an application. For more information regarding the FNS program and the information needed to apply, please visit the Social Service page on the Brunswick County Website.

Pandemic Electronic Benefits (P-EBT)

P-EBT provides a benefit on an EBT card to North Carolina families whose children have access to free and reduced lunch at school. The P-EBT program is a collaboration between the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services and the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and is intended to help families during school closures. All families with one or more children, under age 18, in their household who normally have access to free and reduced lunch at school are eligible for P-EBT benefits. Due to school closures caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, these households are now eligible to receive a benefit on an EBT card to help them buy food for their children.
